Students from the Department of Spatial Design and Consumer Studies at The Catholic University of Korea have won the Grand Prize at the KIDD Space Design Award Contest 2024, one of the most prestigious events in the field, organized by the Korean Society of Interior Design.
The annual competition aims to explore emerging challenges in space design while showcasing the creative ideas of university students. Renowned professionals in the field, including Kim Jung-gon , CEO of Between Space, and Han Seung-jae , Director of FHHH Friends, served as judges for the event.
This year’s theme, “Spatial Design for the Future,” attracted 239 entries from 45 universities. The Grand Prize was awarded to Bae Jun-seong and Koo Han-hee for their project, “SECOND DRIVE,” which impressed the judges with its innovative approach and visionary design.
“SECOND DRIVE” reimagines space not just as a physical structure but as a dynamic platform where humans and technology come together to create new communities and shared experiences. The project brought together innovative ideas and societal needs. It reimagined space not as a static structure but as an interactive platform where people and technology come together, forming new communities and shared experiences. This visionary concept perfectly matched the competition’s theme, “Spatial Design for the Future.” Its creativity, focus on user experience, and emphasis on sustainability earned it the Grand Prize.
At the award ceremony, Bae Jun-seong and Koo Han-hee reflected, “We’re thrilled that our project was recognized and that the ideas we wanted to share were well received. This competition was a great opportunity to deeply consider what defines good design while gaining inspiration from the incredible work of students from other universities.”
Professor Jun Nam-il, Head of the Department of Spatial Design and Consumer Studies, added, “The Korean Society of Interior Design Thematic Competition is the largest and most prestigious event in the field, a dream for all design students. Winning the Grand Prize highlights the outstanding talent and creativity of our students and reflects the high-quality education provided by our program. We’ll continue working to strengthen our university’s leadership in the design field.”
