Students from The Catholic University of Korea (President Won Jongchul), School of International Studies, have been awarded the Ministerial Award at the "2024 Unification Data Utilization Idea Contest."

The "2024 Unification Data Utilization Idea Contest" was organized by the Ministry of Unification to discover ideas that utilize unification-related data and various public datasets to develop public-private partnership projects.

Under the team name “Ubiquitous,” CUK students Yoon Yebin and Lee Dongjae participated in the contest. They won the top prize with their idea for a language assistant service called "Maparam," designed to assist North Korean defectors, earning them the Ministerial Award from the Ministry of Unification.

"Maparam" is a language assistant service aimed at addressing the linguistic challenges North Korean defectors face due to language differences between the North and South. In addition to the "Maparam" service, other ideas discovered through this contest are expected to be applied to various services closely connected to people's daily lives.

At the awards ceremony, Yoon Yebin and Lee Dongjae shared their thoughts, "We spent a long time thinking about how we could provide practical help to North Korean defectors. We feel very proud that our proposal can be implemented in actual policy, and we will continue our efforts to support marginalized communities in society."
