The ARWU rankings are considered one of the top three global university rankings, alongside QS and THE, and are renowned for their global authority. The ARWU Global Ranking of Academic Subjects evaluates five major academic disciplines—Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences—which are further subdivided into 55 specific fields. The evaluation is based on nine indicators, including Highly Cited Researchers (HCR), Top Journal Papers (TJ), number of influential journal publications (Q1), Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI), International Collaboration (IC), etc. This year, ARWU evaluated 5,000 universities across 96 countries and ranked over 1,900 institutions across 55 academic fields.
CUK, aiming to lead education and research focused on life sciences, has shown particular strength in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors. In the 2024 ARWU rankings, CUK was ranked 100–150 globally and secured 3rd place nationally in the Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Sciences category, following Sungkyunkwan University (1st) and Seoul National University (2nd). This achievement solidifies its status as Korea’s leading pharmacy institution. Additionally, CUK achieved 5th place nationally in Clinical Medicine, Medical Technology, Dentistry/Oral Sciences, and Human Biological Sciences and 8th in Biomedical Engineering.
Dean Yong-yeon Cho of the College of Pharmacy remarked, “Since its establishment in 2011, CUK’s College of Pharmacy has made bold investments in research and cutting-edge equipment while actively pursuing diverse international research initiatives and nurturing global talent. With Korea’s largest medical network, which includes eight hospitals, CUK will continue to drive synergy through integration with advanced general hospitals, research, and new drug development, establishing itself as a global hub for biomedical sciences.”
