Volunteer activities for “Sharing Love with Briquette” 3,000 briquettes delivered to the elderly living alone and low-income households.
On Saturday the 8th, our school donated 3,000 briquettes, with a total of more than 80 participants including students, faculty members, and alumni, visiting the Hagik-dong area of Incheon to deliver the briquettes to energy-vulnerable families and share warmth.
Volunteer activities for the "The 16th Catholic University Coal Briquette Sharing Campaign" took place in partnership with the Incheon Briquette Bank, amid a harsh cold wave with temperatures dropping below -10°C. Volunteers personally delivered 3,000 briquettes, purchased with the funds raised through campus fundraising, to the elderly living alone and low-income households, sharing warmth and love.
Jeong Jae-min, a sociology student (Class of 2018) who took part in the briquette delivery, said, “Even though the weather was freezing, I felt warm inside knowing that the briquettes we delivered would help our neighbors to stay warm through winter.” He added, “I hope that the love of Catholic University, contained in each briquette, would bring warmth to both the body and heart of everyone this winter.”
Catholic University has been running the briquette-sharing volunteer work twice each year for people living in isolation and need. Since forming the Caritas Volunteer Group in 2015, the university has put its values of Truth, Love and Service into action through a variety of initiatives to contribute to local communities, including ▲delivering meals to elderly individuals living alone, ▲supporting youth education programs, ▲participating in community beautification projects, and ▲organizing clothing donation drives.
