Sharing Warmth Like Coal Briquettes: The Catholic University of Korea Donates 5,000 Briquettes to Neighbors in Need
On Saturday, December 16, more than 120 students and faculty from The Catholic University of Korea came together for the 15th Annual Charcoal Briquette Sharing Campaign in Hakik-dong, Incheon. The event aimed to bring warmth and care to vulnerable members of the local community.
Volunteers personally delivered charcoal briquettes to elderly residents living alone and low-income families in steep and narrow alleys, where access to heating fuel is often a challenge. A total of 5,000 coal briquettes were purchased with funds raised through a campus-wide donation drive.
Jang Ji-soo, a Public Administration student (Class of 2022) said, “The briquettes were heavier than I expected, but seeing how grateful the recipients were gave me strength and a sense of fulfillment. With a cold winter ahead, I hope these briquettes help them stay warm.”
The university has been running this campaign twice a year, continuing its long-standing commitment to helping those in need. Since forming the Caritas Volunteer Group in 2015, the university has put its values of Truth, Love, and Service into action through a variety of initiatives to contribute to local communities, including delivering meals to elderly individuals living alone, supporting youth education programs, participating in community beautification projects, and organizing clothing donation drives.
